Cruising Miami's Biscayne Bay with

Miami Empresarial Magazine was invited by giant technology company Milner Technologies to a fabulous sunset cruise. We would be sailing off on this glorious February afternoon in Miami with Gene “Dusty” Milner himself on board the Enticer, his private 1935 vintage yacht. Milner executives were on a mission all week, hosting key members of South Florida’s business community, clients and friends and promoting YMCA’s community services. And given that our area leads the nation in drowning deaths, their main focus was the Y’s swimming safety programs.

The Enticer set sail from Miami Beach’s Sunset Harbor Marina, offering guests delicious hors d’oeuvres and refreshments and of course, one breathtaking view after another as it traversed Biscayne Bay with its impressive Miami Beach and Miami skylines.

Graciously hosting the gathering in addition to Mr. Milner were Manuel “Manny” Fernandez, Sales Manager at Milner Document Products, and Brett Aks, Milner’s District Manager for Broward and Palm Beach.

During the outing, Sheryl A. Woods, YMCA’s President and CEO, thanked Milner Technologies for organizing the event, explaining that “what started as a vendor relationship” now felt like a family. Joining her from YMCA’s Board of Directors was Caridad Errazquin, a Y volunteer for 24 years and Senior Portfolio Manager / First Vice President at Bank Hapoalim International.

Ms. Woods spoke about the “New Y” community centers from Homestead to Weston; its pre-school, camp, after-school and youth sports programs; senior initiatives, such as the Silver Sneakers; and family activities like the health and wellness events and aquatic program, which includes swim lessons (for all ages), water exercise, family swim, competitive swimming, and adaptive swim programs for kids with special needs.

She called for a closer partnership with and increased support from the business sector in  Miami Dade for all of the Y’s programs benefiting local underprivileged kids, young adults and seniors. “When it comes to collaborations and partners, I want to encourage you to think outside the box. I believe everybody here tonight could truly be a partner with the ‘Y’,” Woods said. “We have big plans to do more and serve more people in this community, but we really need collaborative work.”

Milner’s Brett Aks closed the presentation thanking guests and sharing the reasons why the entire Milner team is committed to the YMCA:
“Over the last 10 years, the Milner organization has lost three children to drowning. It’s been a big impact to us. We are mission-driven to [promote] water safety with regards to prevention,” Aks told the crowd, adding that he, too, had been a Y kid and had benefited greatly from its mentoring and youth programs.
Among the attendees were Erick Valderrama and Gus Cabrera, President and President-Elect, respectively, of the prestigious Latin Builders Association, and their wives, as well as executives from Solo Printers and Goya Foods.

Also in attendance were Rebeca and Arquimedes Trujillo, Miami Empresarial Magazine’s editor and publisher.
